**May 20 Update**

SPRING 2020 YOUTH SEASON CANCELLATION NOTICE

Thank you for “sheltering in place” with us as we have tried to figure out a way to get our players safely out on the fields for an abbreviated spring season.  In our 48 years of providing recreation soccer programs to families living in the Orange/Chatham/Durham County areas we have never been faced with a situation like the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to our state, our nation and the world.

That being said, it is with the greatest of regrets to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to cancel our youth Spring 2020 Rainbow and TAGS soccer seasons. This decision was not made lightly but was made taking into account multiple discussions over the last few weeks with members of the medical, scientific and sports communities along with your responses to our recent survey.  As much as we are going to miss seeing your children on the fields this spring we as an organization feel that this decision is in the best interest of the overall health of our families as well as our greater community.

We know that one of your first questions for us will be:  “What about the fees that I paid for the spring season?”  We have been working closely with our Board of Directors; keeping them aware of the situation and the possibility that we may need to cancel the spring season entirely.  The complete financial impact of this pandemic on our club has yet to be determined.  We have worked out as generous a refund policy as possible while knowing that we have already paid out some fixed non-refundable expenditures related to your child’s spring registration and also allowing us to maintain a minimal fund balance to work with going forward into the fall season.  Here are your options for the redirection of your spring fees.

  1. If you are able, please consider designating your Spring 2020 fees as a donation towards supporting the participation of our financial aid players and the ongoing operations of our league.  You will receive a tax letter from us in return.  As we are anticipating a higher than usual number of requests for financial aid this fall, your generosity in this regard is much appreciated.

or

  1. We are offering a 75% credit of your Spring 2020 fees towards either a Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 registration.  This discount will be provided when you register.

or

  1. We are offering a refund of 50% of your spring fees to the credit card that they were paid from.  Registrations paid by cash or check will be refunded by check mailed to our address of record for your household.

**May 12 Update**

As we move into Phase I of reopening our state we hope that our soccer families are all well.  We miss the sound of children at practice & play, the cheers and groans from the sidelines as goals are scored - or not - and hope that we will see all of you soon!  Soccer has been determined to be a Phase II activity under the Governor's gradual reopening of the state and as a state we should be able to enter Phase II by May 29th.  We are working on a couple of different options starting June 1 for our youth players depending on how many are allowed to "gather" under Phase II guidelines.  Today we sent out a brief survey to our registered Spring 2020 youth and adult participants to get feedback regarding intent to participate or not.  For those choosing to participate, we will follow up within the next week or 10 days regarding participation options. For those choosing to not participate we will have more specific information for you during that time frame regarding fee transfers to a subsequent season or refunds.

**April 27 Update**

As we move into our 7th week of sheltering in place, social distancing and distance learning we hope that our players and their families are continuing to find ways to cope with the many financial, social and educational difficulties that this unprecedented situation has placed all of us in.  We along with our board are trying to figure out our new normal going forward related to Covid 19’s impact on our small non-profit organization and our programming.

As you are aware, last week Governor Cooper amended his order so that public school students in Grades K – 12 will remain on distance learning for the remainder of this school year.  He has also outlined a gradual phased restart of the state’s economy and activities provided that certain benchmarks are met.

Our state association (NCYSA) has set June 1 as a tentative date for youth soccer activities to resume for the spring.  This date is within the Phase II range proposed by the governor which allows parks to reopen with gatherings of more than 10 people while recommending the continued use of face coverings.  With this date in mind we have been working on a couple of different options for our families for the month of June depending on how much social distancing is relaxed or maintained at it's present level.  We have not finalized all of the details yet but will keep you informed via this website and targeted emails as we are able to firm up our plans.

We look forward to seeing you back out on the fields later on this spring.  We'll continue to stay safe at home and do our part to help our state meet its goals so that we can all enjoy a lessening of restrictions and get back out on the fields as soon as possible.

**March 26 Update**

Greetings to our Rainbow Soccer Community,

We hope that you and your family are doing well during this difficult time.  Rainbow Soccer is working hard to prepare for spring soccer.  We would normally only be in our second week of the season with spring break and Easter approaching.  Seems like so much has happened in the past 10 days.

With Governor Cooper declaring that face to face instruction for students in Grades K - 12 not resume until May 18, and Orange County under a Stay At Home Order until af least April 30, we have adjusted our plans accordingly.  We are currently working on alternative plans to have our season run from mid May through the end of June, allowing our players to get in their games for the spring.  We are working closely with Chapel Hill Parks and Rec to secure the field space needed to provide our full range of programming.

The Rainbow Soccer offices remain closed and we are not accepting walk-in registrations at this time.  If you want information about our few available roster spots you can email info@rainbowsoccer.org with your child's birthday and gender and we will get back to you with any available options.

The Rainbow Soccer fields are also closed and should not be a place where groups are gathering for informal scrimmages, etc.  Town of Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation has closed all of their fields as well.

More information will be posted to the Rainbow Soccer (www.rainbowsoccer.org), TAGS (www.tagsoccer.org), and Chapel Hill Adult Soccer (www.chapelhilladultsoccer.org) websites as we update season information.
